FAQs

  • Do you use positive reinforcement methods?

Yes, I only use positive, force-free training methods. This means rewarding behaviours you want to see more of, rather than punishing mistakes, which can actually make some behaviour issues worse (especially in reactive dogs). Research has shown that positive reinforcement creates faster learning, a stronger bond, and lasting behaviour.

  • Do city dogs need to be trained differently?

Urban life can be challenging to our dogs, especially if they grew up out in the country and didn’t get early exposure to all the sights, sounds, and smells of a big city. I specialize in training dogs to adapt to city life so they can handle it all with more calm and confidence.

  • Do you work with ALL behavioural problems?

Absolutely. we can cover everything from loose leash walking to jumping on guests, resource guarding, excessive prey drive, or anything else that’s making your life harder. We will take it at your dog’s pace and build a custom plan to address your dog’s specific needs.

  • What is day training?

Day training (or private dog tutoring, as I call it) means I do the hands-on work of training your dog for you. I visit your home three times a week to take your dog on training walks designed to give them a new emotional response to their triggers, like other dogs, bikes, cars, etc. Then we meet once a week for a private coaching session so I can teach you how to keep these skills going.

  • Does day training work better than DIY?

For many busy dog parents, yes! DIY training can work if you have the time, skill, and consistency, but most new owners struggle to fit that in. And training a dog with established reactive behaviours is hard, especially if it’s your first! With day training, your dog gets professional, consistent practice from the start, so they learn faster and with far less frustration on your part.

  • Will I need to practice with my dog too?

Yes, but I make it simple! Our weekly coaching sessions give you clear instructions and easy ways to practice so you continue to see results without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Can an initial consultation be in person?

All initial consultations are virtual so we can focus on your goals and your dog without distractions. It’s flexible, convenient, and a calm way to start building a plan that works for your life.

  • Why are all initial consultations virtual?

Starting with a virtual consultation gives us the time and space to focus entirely on you and your dog—without the distractions of city streets, barking dogs, or the chaos of your living room. It’s your chance to share your goals, tell me what’s going on at home, and get clear guidance before we even step outside. Virtual consultations are also flexible, save travel time, and allow us to connect no matter where you are in Toronto. Think of it as a calm, judgment-free kickoff to building a plan that actually works for your dog and your life.

  • Will any of my training sessions be in person?

Yes! After your virtual initial consultation, in-person sessions can begin if you live within our Toronto service areas—Leslieville, Beaches, Riverdale, Corktown, Riverside, Danforth Village, and East York—and your dog’s behaviour is suitable for in-person training. This applies whether you’re enrolled in day training or another program. Training takes place in your home and neighbourhood, helping your dog practice real-world skills in a positive, safe, and effective way
